This PayPal fee calculator applies the rates on PayPal’s US Merchant Fees page, last updated October 1, 2026, to one payment, plus the personal-account Instant Transfer rate from its Consumer Fees page. It works both ways: enter what the buyer pays to see what you receive, or enter what you want to receive to see what to charge. It covers PayPal Checkout, Goods and Services payments, cards, Pay Later, invoices, buyers outside the US, and Instant Transfer to your bank. Runs in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.

PayPal fees in 2026: the US rates the calculator uses
The rates below are PayPal’s standard US rates for receiving domestic payments, from its commercial, invoicing and micropayments tables. Where PayPal writes “fixed fee”, the US fixed fee is $0.49, or $0.09 for QR code and micropayments pricing.
| How the buyer pays | PayPal’s rate | Fee on $100 | You receive |
|---|---|---|---|
| PayPal Checkout, PayPal Guest Checkout, or Pay with Venmo | 3.49% + $0.49 | $3.98 | $96.02 |
| Goods and Services payment sent in PayPal | 2.99% | $2.99 | $97.01 |
| Standard credit and debit card payments | 2.99% + $0.49 | $3.48 | $96.52 |
| PayPal Pay Later | 4.99% + $0.49 | $5.48 | $94.52 |
| QR code | 2.29% + $0.09 | $2.38 | $97.62 |
| Micropayments pricing, if PayPal approves it for your account | 4.99% + $0.09 | $5.08 | $94.92 |
| Invoice paid by bank (Pay by Bank, ACH) | 1%, capped at $10.00 | $1.00 | $99.00 |
“All Other Commercial Transactions” are 3.49% plus the fixed fee, the same as Checkout. “Pay with Venmo” means Venmo chosen as the payment option at a PayPal checkout; payments received in the Venmo app itself are not on this fee page. Payments from buyers PayPal registers or identifies as resident outside the US add 1.50% to the percentage, so a $100 Checkout payment from such a buyer costs $5.48 instead of $3.98.
The Goods and Services fee is 2.99%, with no fixed fee
PayPal’s US merchant page lists “Send/Receive Money for Goods and Services” at 2.99%, and that row has no fixed fee. Most other rows say “+ fixed fee”. Published guides and calculators disagree on this rate. Some use 3.49% + $0.49, which is the PayPal Checkout rate, and some use 2.99% + $0.49, which is the card rate. On a $100 payment that is $2.99 against $3.98 or $3.48.
PayPal does not define the row further. It reads as payments sent with Send or Request Money and marked as goods and services. Payments made through a PayPal Checkout button on your site, or through an invoice, have their own rows on the same page, at the rates in the table above. PayPal’s consumer fee page sends personal accounts to the merchant page for selling rates, so the same row applies to them. The fee PayPal charged on any payment is shown in that payment’s transaction details, which is the number to trust if it differs from this page.
Using the PayPal fee calculator in reverse: how to charge so you receive a set amount
Set the second field to “What I want to receive”. The calculator finds the lowest amount, to the cent, that leaves you that much after the fee. To receive $100.00 through PayPal Checkout, charge $104.12: the fee on $104.12 is $4.12. Through a Goods and Services payment, charge $103.08.
By hand, the amount to charge is:
charge = (amount you want + fixed fee) / (1 - percentage rate)
(100.00 + 0.49) / (1 - 0.0349) = 100.49 / 0.9651 = 104.12
The calculator rounds each fee to the nearest cent, so its answer can differ from the formula by a cent. Note that the fee is charged on the whole payment, so you cannot add 3.49% + $0.49 to $100 and break even: $103.98 leaves you $99.86.
Invoices: the same rates, plus a bank option capped at $10
PayPal invoices are charged by how the customer pays the invoice: 3.49% + $0.49 through PayPal Checkout, Pay with Venmo or Guest Checkout, 2.99% + $0.49 by card or Apple Pay, 4.99% + $0.49 with Pay Later, and 1% capped at $10.00 when the customer pays by bank through Pay by Bank (ACH). International invoices add 1.50% to every payment type.
The cap makes the bank option very different on large invoices. On a $5,000 invoice to a US customer the fee is $10.00 by bank, $149.99 by card, and $174.99 through PayPal Checkout. For a domestic invoice, from $1,000 up, the bank fee stays at $10.00. On an international invoice the 1.50% is added on top of the capped fee, so the same $5,000 paid by bank costs $85.00.
Instant Transfer to your bank: 1.50% for business accounts
Moving money from PayPal to your bank is free with a standard transfer, when no currency conversion is involved. For business accounts, PayPal’s merchant fee page lists Instant Transfer, to a bank account or an eligible debit card, at 1.50% of the amount moved, with a $0.50 minimum. PayPal’s consumer fee page lists 1.75% for personal accounts, with a $0.25 minimum and a $25.00 maximum. The calculator offers both. Each Instant Transfer to a bank is limited to at most $25,000.
On the $96.02 left from a $100 Checkout payment, a business account’s Instant Transfer costs $1.44 and $94.58 lands in your bank. On a $20 Checkout payment moved on its own, the $0.50 minimum applies, which is 2.7% of the $18.81 moved. The fee applies to each transfer, so moving several payments at once avoids paying the minimum again and again. The calculator treats the payment as moved on its own.
Forvendo decision rules
- Invoices over $1,000 to US customers: if your invoice settings offer Pay by Bank (ACH), the fee stops at $10.00, while the card fee keeps growing at 2.99% of the invoice. International invoices add 1.50% on top of the cap.
- Instant Transfer as a habit: at the business rate of 1.50%, moving $1,000 a week instantly costs $15 a week, or $780 a year. Use it on the day the cash is needed and use standard transfers otherwise.
- Many small payments: on a payment that gets micropayments pricing, $10 costs $0.59 against $0.84 at the Checkout rate. The two rates cost the same at about $26.67, and above that the Checkout rate is cheaper. PayPal says you “may apply” for micropayments pricing for “certain lower value transactions”, so check what your account is approved for before you count on it.
Fees that are not in the calculator
- Refunds. In PayPal’s words: “there are no fees to make the refund, but the fees you originally paid to receive the payment are not returned to you.” A refunded $100 Checkout sale still costs you $3.98.
- Disputes and chargebacks. PayPal may charge a dispute fee of $15.00 ($30.00 at the high-volume rate) when a buyer files a dispute or chargeback on a payment made through their PayPal account or a PayPal checkout solution. For card payments not made through a PayPal account or guest checkout, a $20.00 chargeback fee.
- Currency conversion. When PayPal converts currency, its exchange rate includes a spread. PayPal lists 4.00% for paying for goods or services in a currency other than the one they are listed in, and 3.00% for all other transactions, in each case “or such other amount as may be disclosed to you during the transaction.”
- Account-specific rates. PayPal can raise the percentage part of an account’s fees, by up to 5.00% per transaction, after 30 days’ notice when it sees a high level of risk such as many complaints or chargebacks.
Rates are from PayPal’s US Merchant Fees page (last updated October 1, 2026) and its US Consumer Fees page (last updated May 19, 2026), both read on 2026-10-14. PayPal posts rate changes on its Policy Updates page.
