Whatnot Fee Calculator: Tiered Commission, Processing, and What You Keep

This Whatnot fee calculator uses the tiered commission rates Whatnot introduced on September 21, 2026, in place of the old standard 8% rate. Enter the sale, pick your category group and your sales from the last four-week period, and it applies your tier’s commission rate and the payment processing fee, then shows what you keep. Runs in your browser and sends nothing anywhere.

How the Whatnot fee calculator works out your fees

Whatnot charges two fees on a sale, and they are calculated on different amounts:

  • Commission is a percentage of the item’s sale price only. Whatnot’s help center says shipping and taxes paid by the buyer are not included.
  • Payment processing is 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction, charged on the buyer’s whole order total: item price, shipping and sales tax.

The buyer pays shipping at checkout and you print the prepaid label Whatnot provides, so shipping is not money you keep. It still counts in the processing fee. If you offer free or discounted shipping, the part you cover comes out of your earnings; enter it in the “shipping you cover” field.

Whatnot’s own example: a $10 item with $4.99 shipping and $0.85 sales tax pays 8% commission on the $10, or $0.80. With 8.5% sales tax on the item only (set the shipping-tax option to No), the calculator returns the same $0.80, and a processing fee of $0.76 on the $15.84 total.

The new tiered commission rates (US)

Since September 21, 2026, your commission rate depends on your total sales across all categories in a four-week period, and the category group of each sale. US rates from Whatnot’s seller fees article, read on 2026-10-04:

Whatnot names the six groups but does not publish a full list of which listing categories fall in each one. The exception is Coins: its Coins & Money article names Coins & Bullion and Paper Money & Currency. For live shows the rate follows the show’s category; for marketplace sales it follows the product’s category. Seller Hub shows the exact rate charged on every order, under the order’s receipt and earnings details.

Four rules that decide which rate you pay

  1. Last period sets this period’s rate. Your sales in one four-week period decide the tier for the next one. Crossing a threshold mid-period does not lower your rate until the next period starts. Enter your previous period’s total in the calculator, not this period’s.
  2. Every period starts from zero. Sales do not carry over between periods, and each account earns its own tier. Two accounts do not add up.
  3. Cancellations come off the total. A canceled order is subtracted from the period it was placed in, which can drop the tier you unlock next. Private shows and local pickup orders do not count.
  4. Your total is across all categories, your rate is per category. $10,000 of Fashion and $5,000 of Toys is $15,000, which unlocks Tier 1. Each sale is then charged the Tier 1 rate for its own category group.

What a tier is worth on one order

A $40 Fashion item with $5.99 shipping, sold to a buyer paying 7% sales tax on both:

Your tierCommissionProcessingTotal feesYou keep
Standard (8%)$3.20$1.73$4.93$35.07
Tier 1 (7%)$2.80$1.73$4.53$35.47
Tier 3 (5.5%)$2.20$1.73$3.93$36.07

Processing does not change with the tier, so the tiers move only part of your fees. The same $40 item in Sports at Tier 3 pays 7.25%, or $2.90 in commission: the groups fall at different speeds.

Small orders work the other way. A $5 card with $4.99 shipping pays $0.40 in commission and $0.61 in processing at 7% tax, about 20% of the sale price, because the $0.30 fixed fee and the shipping inside the processing base do not shrink with the item.

A decision rule for chasing the next tier

How much the next tier is worth depends on your category group. From Standard to Tier 1, Fashion and Other drop one point, worth $150 on $15,000 of next-period sales; Other Collectibles drops 0.75 point ($112.50); Sports and TCG drop a quarter point ($37.50); Coins drops 0.10 point ($15). That saving arrives a period later and only if you sell as much again. So before discounting to push this period over $15,000, compare the margin you give up on the extra sales now with the rate drop for your own categories on what you expect to sell next period. If the discount costs more, the tier is not worth buying.

Whatnot’s Seller Hub projects where you will finish the period by taking your sales so far, dividing by the days passed and multiplying by 28. Use that projection, not a guess, to see how far you are from the line.

The high-value promotion

In select categories, Whatnot charges 0% commission on the part of a single order’s sale price above $1,500: Comics & Anime, Toys & Hobbies, Coins & Money, Trading Card Games, Entertainment Cards, Sports Singles subcategories, Bags & Accessories, and Jewelry & Watches. Sports breaks and Surprise Products are excluded. Processing still applies to the full order. Whatnot’s promotion page calls it limited-time.

Whatnot’s example: a $2,000 eligible item pays 8% on the first $1,500, or $120, and nothing on the remaining $500. The promotion page was written before the tiers and quotes the 8% standard rate. Whatnot has not said which rate applies to the first $1,500 now that tiers exist; the calculator assumes your tier’s rate. Check the rate on the order in Seller Hub if your tier is above Standard.

What the calculator does not cover

  • Sales tax on Whatnot’s fees. Whatnot’s fee tax article says it collects tax on its commission in DC, Hawaii, New Mexico and West Virginia, and on the processing fee in Connecticut, Hawaii, New Mexico, Ohio, South Dakota, Texas and West Virginia, based on where the seller is. Rates vary by city, so it is left out here.
  • Promotional and custom rates. New-seller, launch and category promotions override your tier while they run, and rates as low as 3% are custom terms for the highest-volume sellers.
  • Premier Shop. Through October 31, 2026, the Premier Shop 10% discount applies on top of your tier rate (a 5% rate becomes 4.5%). From November 1 it no longer reduces commission.
  • Show Promotion and Boost. These are separate paid fees.
  • Markets outside the US. Canada, the UK, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Australia have their own thresholds and rates. Japan has no tiers.
  • Extra postage. If the weight you enter is too low, Whatnot warns the prepaid label may be underpaid and need additional postage later. That cost is yours.
